Michigan Science Standards (2015) = NGSS PEs
New Michigan K-12 Science Standards
2007 Michigan Science Standards
Michigan 2007 K-7 Science Content Expectations - GLCE
Michigan 2007 Science High School Content Expectations - HSCE
- Earth and Space Science
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
Michigan 2007 Essential HSCE
NGSS - MI GLCE/HSCE Standards Alignment Documents
Since the NGSS are written as performance expectations that integrate three dimensions of science learning (practices, core ideas, and concepts) and the Michigan expectations treat these dimensions separately, this alignment analysis does not indicate a one-to-one alignment. Rather, each alignment study provides three levels of analysis: Content Alignment (with an overview of the scope of the NGSS), Practice Alignment, and Relationship of GLCE/HSCE content statements and expectations to NGSS topics, DCIs, and PEs. (These documents were drafted in 2012 and early 2013, and later adapted by the NGSS External Review Team in late 2013.) The analysis for High School includes the full range of Michigan HSCE (Essential and Core Content Expectations).
Elementary
K-5 Physical Science Alignment
K-5 Life Science Alignment
K-5 Earth and Space Science Alignment
Middle School
MS Physical Science Alignment
MS Life Science Alignment
MS Earth and Space Science Alignment
High School
HS Physical Science Alignment
HS Life Science Alignment
HS Earth and Space Science Alignment
Content Alignment Summary: 82% of NGSS PEs address content that is aligned at some level with the content addressed in one or more HSCE/GLCE. The content alignment increases to 88% if the 14 Engineering Design PEs are not considered. The Michigan GLCE and HSCE do not specifically address the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices nor Crosscutting Concepts at a level that aligns with the NGSS PEs.
