Session Description
Learn to Maximize Comprehension across Disciplines
Experience activities that stretch your students' thinking through five shades of comprehension: literal, inferential, critical, evidence-based, and generative. Engage with all five shades of comprehension: first with a simple text and then using the same five shades with text at various grade and discipline levels. Leave with strategies that grow students' comprehension from word callers to competent comprehenders and generative thinkers. Learn how content area text has the potential to be read, critically analyzed, organized and consolidated into the most abstract levels of thinking which will improve acquisition and retrieval of information. Explore the mission literacy website giving free access to a treasure trove of free literacy resources and activities drawn from research on word callers, linguistics, concept attainment, and generative thinking.
